Welcome to D.I.G. 401: The FOUR ACTIONS!

Welcome to D.I.G. 401. In this class we will discuss the ACTIONS we need to take to be an effective partner with Jesus in His Mission to save souls and our commission to make disciples.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE FOUR ACTIONS.

Finding your purpose in God’s mission is an incredible moment. Nothing beats seeing people come to know Jesus and become partners with Him—knowing you were instrumental in that transformation. These FOUR ACTIONS will make you the instrument of change that God will use for others. The heart of the FOUR ACTIONS is being a disciple maker:

DEEPER 3: Exampling for others what we are pursuing.

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. – 1 Corinthians 11:1

DEEPER 4: Caring for others as mothers and fathers.

“But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children. Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:7-8

LET’S GET STARTED!

This class is geared to make you become the hands and feet of Jesus. By the end of this module, the hope is that you will see yourself as part of the church and partners in leading others to a deeper place in God as you have been led. In essence, to be a disciple who is now a disciple-maker.

FOUR ACTIONS

The FOUR ACTIONS is our “tactic” or purposeful approach to deepen the lives of every believer that takes part in our efforts to reach the lost. It seeks to get new believers rooted while making teachers/leaders of those who are taking part in the FOUR ACTIONS.

God is not a God of confusion. God is organized and His Church is only truly effective if we are also organized in reaching the world for Him. But it’s not for organizing sake that we do this, it is because we CARE for those whom Jesus died for.

These FOUR ACTIONS are arranged in an acronym that spells out the word “CARE” (patterned after the birth and growth of a child):

  1. Community outreach (hospital);

  2. Assimilation (home);

  3. Ready (school);

  4. Exercise (work).

The C.A.R.E. System is a great way of increasing the number of people that come to know Jesus and strengthen those who will help others in that journey. Because we are called to reach the world, we must be able to duplicate ourselves effectively and consistently. Our tactic is based on the birth and growth of a child.

You’ve hopefully made the FOUR DECISIONS, practicing the FOUR HABITS and FOUR DISCIPLINES, and are handling the FOUR COMMITMENTS. Now, it’s time to ACT!

Expectations:

By the end of this class it is our hope that you will be an integral part in bringing seekers to God and caring for the new babies that will be born in God’s Church. And as a caring father or mother, you will flow in your purpose by helping a seeker become an effective partner in the commission of Jesus—while you become a fruitful member of the Body of Christ. Alright! Now that we got that established, let’s begin!

ACTION 1: COMMUNITY OUTREACH (Hospital)

WHY COMMUNITY OUTREACH?

How important is the work of bringing people to Jesus?

Let’s read Mark 16:15

Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Because it was His mission to bring lost sons to the Father, we are in commission with Him to that invitation to those who God leads us to daily.

WHAT IS OUTREACH?

Have you ever participated in an “outreach” of any kind?

Let’s read Luke 10:1-2; Luke 14:15-24

Much like a baby is birth in the hospital, inviting people to Jesus by way of our small groups and our church is the initial, birthing process for us. “Evangelism” is the term for this type of invitation.

USING THE “ONE VERSE” EVANGELISM?

Let’s read Romans 6:23

Learning the One Verse Evangelism – Romans 6:23 – will equip us in sharing the gift of salvation to others as simple as possible. “The wages of sin is death” – What are wages? What is “sin”? What is the “death” that Paul is speaking of here? “But” – there is an alternate solution “The gift of God is eternal life” – What is a gift? What is eternal life? “Through Jesus Christ our Lord” – Believe in Jesus, accept Him as Lord of our lives.

ACTION TWO: ASSIMILATION (Home)

WHY ASSIMILATION?

Let’s read Acts 2:42

Much like bringing a newborn baby back home, helping new seekers and believers become a part of their new church family is important for their health and feelings of safety.

WHAT’S YOUR ROLE IN THE ASSIMILATION?

Let’s read John 13:34-35, Galatians 6:1-2

Here you become their spiritual big brother or sister leading them as they get to know their spiritual “fathers” as well as brothers and sisters.

WHERE DOES THE ASSIMILATION HAPPEN?

Let’s read Acts 5:42

From larger church gatherings (on Sundays) or events or programs the church holds; to bringing them to small group meetings, social gatherings and one on one fellowship, we help our new but growing brothers and sisters become part of the Body.

WHEN CAN WE ASSIMILATE NEW BELIEVERS?

Let’s read Ephesians 1:15-16; Acts 5:42 again.

Assimilation happens everyday. A phone call, a text message, an invitation to dinner or others are simple yet effective ways to foster new people to become a part of the family. Just think relationship building. Encouraging new believers to join the D.I.G. Process is your big brother/sister way in leading them to partner up with us to get involved in the commission of Jesus.

ACTION THREE: READY (School)

WHY READINESS?

Let’s read 2 Timothy 2:2

Like growing children needing to go to school, we all need to take part in learning what God has planned for us and training us to become an effective partner in the commission of Jesus.

HOW DOES ONE GET READY?

Let’s read 2 Timothy 2:2, 15.

Training to become a soul winner while assisting new believers to do the same will help you and them realize their true calling as a follower of Jesus. Learning how to D.I.G. will allow them to become diggers with you. Teaching them how to lead others makes them ready for the mission of soul winning.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE WAYS TO GET READY?

Completing the D.I.G. Process, taking part in serve teams, helping leaders to be effective in their work for God, joining training sessions among other things, will help us get ready—bringing someone along in the journey and exampling for them what it means to be a partner, will help others get ready for the work they have ahead.

ACTION FOUR: EXERCISE (Work)

WHY EXERCISE?

Are there any better methods to learning what you’ve been taught than to put them into action?

Let’s read 1 Thessalonians 3:6-13; John 15:1-8; Acts 1:8

A healthy child that has been raised right and have been taught properly, will become a productive member of society. Likewise, a mature believer in Jesus will exercise his faith in Christ and work the work he is called to do. We’re called to work. We’re filled with the Spirit to work. Work is involvement, and involvement produces growth. Growth is known by the fruit produced. No fruit means no work. Fruit means work. More fruit means more work. Much fruit means much work.

WHAT EXERCISE ARE WE DOING?

Let’s read Mark 6:6-12

Practice your role during our worship gatherings. Come early, pray, serve, greet others, visually and vocally participate during the song service, bring your bible and a notebook—take notes during preaching, give, respond to altar calls, stick around and welcome others to the service and family. Participate in the development of new believers. Take an active role in the lives of believers in between church gatherings – according the D.I.G. Process. (Full list of our expectations in worship here.)

HOW DO WE EXERCISE?

Serving in a team helps you foster the culture of our church and keep you exercising what you’ve learned and love. The church cultures of: praying, serving/leading, bringing people, giving, honoring, and building community is geared to make you a productive part of Waters Church and a fruitful member of the Body of Christ. Join a team today, if you have not yet.
